Hi and welcome to Yogadocious!
I’m Suzy Turner and I’m passionate about helping people deal with the aches and pains of everyday life – primarily those that are caused from sitting at desks for long hours on end.
For the majority of my adult life, I’ve been sitting down – initially working at a newspaper, then a magazine. Always writing. Always sitting at a desk. When I was made redundant from my job as a magazine editor back in 2010, I started writing novels. Again, I spent most of my time crouched over my computer. Needless to say, I ended up with the most awful back pain, leg pain and neck pain!
I visited doctors, chiropractors and all kinds of therapists but nothing helped in the long run.
As I approached my late thirties, I decided enough was enough and I started to practise yoga. It soon became apparent that this would be my saviour. Until that is, I pushed myself way too hard, much too fast and ended up with further debilitating back pain.
But I didn’t give up. I began to realise that yoga, when practised mindfully, can help all kinds of problems. After I turned 40, I wanted to share what I’d learned with the world, so I trained to become a yoga teacher. It was the best thing I’ve ever done (well, apart from marry my childhood sweetheart of course) and now I help to ease other people’s aches and pains…one stretch at a time.
I don’t believe that yoga should be about acrobatics or pushing yourself beyond your limits. I believe that if you take it easy, and move the way your body is meant to move, you’ll feel a huge relief from all those problems caused by sitting for too long. After all, if you think about it, we lie down all night long, we get up and we sit on the toilet, then sit to eat breakfast, sit at a computer for eight hours, then come home, sit down to eat dinner and then sit in front of the TV until bedtime, when we repeat the whole cycle again.
No wonder our muscles are crying out for some TLC.
But it’s not just gentle yoga I’m passionate about, I’m also a big supporter of organic / bio products and yummy recipes to help soothe our bodies, inside and out. I’m a huge believer in the power of positivity and believe that a healthy body begins with a healthy mind.
And that’s why I started Yogadocious – somewhere for people to come for advice, for yoga classes online and off, somewhere to find delicious recipes that will keep you healthy as you grow older. Somewhere to be inspired to be the best you can possibly be. But don’t worry, I’m not a super crazy health freak by no means – I like to eat chocolate and lactose-free ice cream and drink wine as much as the next person. I mean, I do live in Portugal where some of the world’s best wines are produced 😉
As an author, I also have some exciting new non-fiction and fictional books in the pipeline too, as well as creating some yoga classes specifically aimed at my fellow authors. If you’d like to be kept in the loop about what’s coming up, then please sign up to my mailing list and/or subscribe to my blog posts – both of which you’ll find on the right hand column.
I do hope you’ll enjoy what I have to offer.
